Toddler Tuesday: Homemade Finger Paint

It was a long, rainy Saturday in Richmond, VA this past weekend, and my toddler was over Thomas the Train, Peter Pan, and Mickey’s Clubhouse.  I knew I had to act fast or suffer the consequences.  One quick “toddler activities” search on Pinterest later, and we were in business.  While my husband distracted her with Cheerios, I went to work in the kitchen prepping cornstarch finger paint.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup corn starch
2 cups water
food coloring

Directions:

Mix water and corn starch in a saucepan.  Try your best to get rid of the clumps.

Bring to a boil and stir until it reaches a gel-like consistency.

fp8

Portion off into smaller bowls for cooling and store remainder for another time.

fp3

Add food coloring and voila!

fp7

Set up for your toddler.

fp6

Let him/her go to town.  Note: This recipe is great because it is super thick and will not spill as my daugher was awesome enough to demonstrate for you below.

Hope that he/she is okay with this new texture or you’re going to have to move on to plan b.fp2fp10

Plan b…

Get dressed and go to the Children’s Museum of Richmond.

  1. Hi Whitney! Your daughter is adorable and your post brought me back to a time when I made that same recipe for my daughters … and they had the same reaction! Thanks for mentioning the Children’s Museum. We’re glad you came to play!
