Bend, Oregon: A Few of Our Favorite Things

We recently visited my husband’s father in Bend.  It was our second trip of the year as we previously visited in May.  Considering it takes an entire day of flying to get there and we have a toddler, you could say we are pretty fond of the place.

To be honest, I wasn’t super excited when my father-in-law decided to retire there.  It’s so far away, and, well, it’s Oregon–not a popular vacation destination for someone living in Richmond, Virginia.  However, I have definitely fallen in love with it, and I’m so lucky we can spend a couple of weeks a year in an entirely different environment from Virginia, with zero humidity, a thriving downtown, mountain views, and even a mountain for skiing.

Here are a few of our favorite things to do in Bend (and to prove to you it’s absolutely nothing like the Oregon Trail, that “educational” computer game our teachers used to keep us occupied while they graded papers).

1/ Float Down the Deschutes River 2/ Get a Planker Sandwich and Have a Picnic at Drake Park

3/ Visit the High Desert Museum 4/ Have Dinner and S’mores While Watching the Sunset at Brasada Ranch

5/ Go for a Hike 6/ Ski Mt. Bachelor 7/ Play Golf 8/ Visit a Brewery
