Before getting into the meal plan, I must share with you my new favorite restaurant in Richmond VA. We received a gift cerfiticate for Christmas to Belmont Food Shop. I had heard of it before, but I actually thought it was a specialty food store. After checking out the website, I was excited to get to try it out this weekend for our date night.
I tried to make a reservation the night before, but they were already booked. They only have four or five tables and they only take reservations for 5 p.m., 7 p.m., or 9 p.m. Even though they were booked, they said we were more than welcome to walk in and sit at the bar, so that’s what we did. We were very lucky that there were two seats available when we arrived. The bartender explained that you probably need to make a reservation about a week in advance to get a table on a Friday or Saturday night.
The appetizers were my favorite part of the meal. We ordered two: a crab and avocado dish and a caviar tartare dish. They had better-sounding names and descriptions, but I don’t remember them. They aren’t on the website either as they change the menu from night to night. You’ll just have to trust me that they were amazing.
I had the duck ravioli for my main course and Mark had the grouper. Again, they were full of other awesome ingredients and flavors, but I didn’t write them down. You can check out the menu for an idea of what they offer. Below is a picture of the duck ravioli. Also, you can search the hashtag #belmontfoodshop on Pinterest to see more mouth-watering plates.
I probably shouldn’t have started today’s post with those yummy dishes, as my meal plan for the week pales by comparison. But, here goes…
We’re about to start the third full week of 2014 and the Watsons are still eating healthy meals at home–our eating out is another story, but we’re limiting that to once or twice a week.
Monday- Crock Pot Chicken Enchilada Soup
Thursday- Spicy Moroccan Stewed Fish with Couscous
Friday- Pan-Steamed Chicken and Broccoli
Things you can prep on Sunday:
- Chicken Enchilada Soup
- Lemon Vinaigrette
Also, I’m planning on buying a few bags of spinach to turn leftovers from the above meals to lunch bowls, similar to what Jen at Peanut Butter Runner does. Super healthy and also a way to make sure nothing goes to waste.
Have You Heard of Blue Apron?
Our friends have been using a service called Blue Apron, and they were able to pass along three meals for us to try out next week. I am so excited! I’ve used Relay Foods before to shop for groceries online, but this service delivers all of the ingredients for three pre-planned meals directly to your doorstep and you don’t have to plan a thing.
Next Saturday, this is going to arrive on my doorstep:
Inside the box will be everything I need to make the three meals (other than olive oil, salt, and pepper), including recipe cards. Here’s what’s on the menu for next week:
- Chicken Supremes and Broccolini with Forbidden Rice, Pepitas, & Mustard Sauce
- Pan-Roasted Hake with Roasted Fennel, Fresh Grapes & Brown Butter Vinaigrette
- Moroccan Beef Tagine with Dates and Honey
I will be sure to write a detailed post about the experience to share with you. I’m counting down the days! If we like it, we may try this out for a while. I think I can still stick to my weekly grocery budget with this services included, and, it will save me a lot of time, so that’s certainly worth something!
